Kevin Torres | Backpack Journalist | [email protected] | Denver, CO
I'm a Backpack Journalist at K*USA-TV in Denver, CO. I joined the award winning 9NEWS team in September, 2009. I moved to Colorado from Upstate New York, where I worked as a Backpack Journalist at the ABC affiliate, WSYR-TV in Syracuse.
I've won more than 30 awards for my photography, editing, writing and storytelling. In 2011, I won an Emmy for "Best Live Reporter" in the Heartland Region. Since then I've been nominated for an additional five Emmy Awards, including nominations for: Spot News, Videojournalist, Commentator/Editorialist and Light Feature Mini-Series. I've also won several awards from the Associated Press, the Syracuse Press Club and the National Press Photographers Association. I've also been named “Photographer of the Year” in New York State four times and received the Associated Press' highest individual honor for television news reporting. While at WSYR-TV, I reported extensively from Louisiana and covered post-Katrina cleanup. In 2008, I produced, filmed and edited a 30-minute documentary by myself about a volunteer group's efforts to rebuild hurricane battered communities. Prior to working in Syracuse, I was a weekend anchor at the CBS affiliate in Watertown, New York. I am originally from Northern New York. I grew up in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. I attended Holland Patent High School and studied Broadcasting and Mass Communications at Oswego State University. I'm a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. When I'm not at work, I enjoy hiking Colorado’s many trails and exploring the state’s beautiful mountains. I'm a huge social media junky. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and many other websites. |
