Live on Scene...I was one of the first local reporters on scene at the Century 16 Theater Shooting in Aurora. Photojournalist Chris Hansen and I arrived on scene around 2:30am.
We used a LiveU backpack - so please ignore the hollow audio sound. This was one of our live shots from that morning. We basically walked around and showed everyone the scene. |

A Victim's CourageRebecca Wingo's story affected me the most. All of the victims were incredible people, but for one reason or another I related more to Rebecca. Maybe it's because I have respect for single mothers who raise their children by themselves, or maybe it's because she stood up to the man who eventually killed her. Here's a story I put together within two hours before it aired.

Survivor's Guilt...Hundreds of people who were inside the Century 16 Movie Theater in Aurora were affected (mentally) by the deadly shootings.
Many of the victims who survived are dealing with what's known as 'Survivor's Guilt'. They either feel guilty they survived the shooting, or they feel guilty they didn't do enough to help out the other victims. Here's a story I shot/wrote/edited/produced. |

Today Show Live ShotThe Aurora Theater Shooting quickly became a national news story overnight. The network morning shows on the East Coast called their closest correspondents in - but they were still hours away from reaching Aurora.
In the meantime, NBC News asked my colleagues Brandon Rittiman, Jace Larson and I to provide live shots/interviews for them. Here's my live shot with Matt Lauer on the Today Show. |

A Story About Hope...With so much tragedy associated with the Aurora Theater Shootings it's difficult to find stories of hope. However, one of the victims who was listed in critical condition found out Tuesday he was the father of a healthy new baby boy. This was a pool feed and the interview was shot by our competitor KMGH. They sent it to us an hour before air time. Here's what I did with the story.

Sirens Going Off...One of the creepiest things I'll always remember from the Aurora Theater Shootings is the sound of the security alarms.
When the shooter opened fire on the audience in Theater 9 the alarms immediately went off. They stayed on until 9am - and played during many of our live shots. |

The 12 VictimsI produced a two-minute long video tribute to remember the victims of the Aurora Theater Shooting.
I wanted it to resemble a NAT pkg with no reporter track, so I used some interview sound and a music track. The PKG aired the Monday after the deadly shooting rampage. |

Live on NBC NewsThe day of the Aurora Movie Theater shootings I was live on the air for most of the morning.
I did several live shots for my station, 9NEWS/KUSA and a few more live shots for NBC News. I was on the Today Show and 'The Daily Rundown' with Chuck Todd. Here's a clip of my live shot on 'The Daily Rundown'. |
