The Flagstaff FireWhen smoke poured in to the sky above Boulder, Colorado - many people were worried a wildfire would creep in to the city. 9NEWS was the first station to reach the Flagstaff fire when it broke out.
Kyle Clark and I were live on the 4pm news providing viewers with different angles of the fire near Boulder's Flat Iron mountains. Here are my live shots. |

Street Side SupportThis was a fun story. I was told to head down to the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs to find a human interest story.
We heard a lot of bad news with the fire, so it was nice to find something a little more uplifting. I shot, wrote and edited this piece. It aired during one of our team coverage nights from CoSprings. |

Fire in the Canyon...This is another team shoot. Photojournalist Andy Buck and I were sent up to Northern Colorado to report on a wildfire that broke out in a canyon.
The fire drew quite a crowd. Residents who were worried about evacuating gathered to watch the fire burn up the mountain side. This story won an NPPA Award for Spot News. |

Fire in the Field...When a wildfire broke out on Colorado's Eastern Plains, I was dispatched immediately with photojournalist Kevin Sullivan to report on the breaking news.
Sully and I stayed overnight and produced three stories the following day, including this one about an elderly lady who lost her home in the fire. We shot/wrote/edited the stories in the field and FTP'd them back to Denver for air. |

Working w/ NothingI was assigned a story about a victim who was killed in the High Park wildfire. Her daughter-in-law agreed to talk to 9news exclusively, but they wouldn't provide us with a picture of her - because she was a private person. We also didn't have any video of the area where her home was destroyed. I thought of an interesting way to put this story together. It received great response. I shot/wrote/edited the story.

Showing Support...Want to see a quick turn around? I shot this story at 7:30pm and it had to air at 9pm. We received a news tip from a viewer who said residents around the High Park fire area gather every evening to cheer on the firefighters as they return to base.
My producers sent me there and I turned a quick mini-PKG. I shot, wrote and edited this piece very quickly. |
