A couple times a year I give lectures at Universities and Colleges across the country to educate Broadcast Journalism students about Storytelling and Backpack Journalism.
I also offer private consultations to teach groups of videographers and journalists how to shoot, write and edit. Reporting v. StorytellingWhenever I give a lecture or seminar I like to discuss the difference between Reporting and Storytelling.
I put this video together to explain it. Example A is a version of 'generic' reporting. Example B is an example of Storytelling. Example B actually aired on KUSA. Chances are Example A would air on most local news stations, which is a shame. Your goal is to capture moments. That's what you got in Example B. |
